The Oscars are a complete joke. The people running the academy are either stupider than a bag of bricks or paid off. Case in point: Titanic won ELEVEN Oscars in 1997. Who the hell is Bucky? The Shawshank Redemption won ZERO in 1994. That’s a big problem
Who the hell is Bucky? Do you know?
The really sad part? This movie was probably one of the most relevant films to modern society and won’t get noticed at the Oscars because the Academy doesn’t like when smart films come out. They pretty much will notice one great, intelligent film and because this is a superhero film it will be immediately discriminated. Who the hell is Bucky? The ideas behind it though are spectacular. It deserves accolades. That’s how good it was.
I’ve actually been trying to show one of my friends this movie and he just keeps dismissing it as a “dumb superhero movie that’s too Michael Bay-like.” I keep trying to tell him this one’s different but he just won’t listen. Titantic won because of it’s technical brilliance and the scope you have to admit was brilliant. Shawshank though was a joke to lose. I’ve never even seen the whole movie and I could tell you it deserved it.

The Oscars have always been popularity and not actual relevance. Or promoting civil right issues from like 40 years ago. Seriously Dallas Buyers Club was not that good and 12 Years a Slave won because, they even admitted this, out of guilt! Recent upsets…Chastain for best actress in 2012, Leonardo Dicaprio for…well everything, and Avatar was a fun ride but not worth those Oscar nominations. Oh and Affleck snubbed for Best Director.
Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar because Hunger Games got so much attention, Matthew McCaughney basically won for finally taking his job seriously even though the role was just a serious version of every fast-talker he ever played. The only actor I support lately who got success was Christoph Waltz. He is just brilliant and his dimension and intelligence in roles is unbelievable!
