I will preface my comment by saying I am well prepared for accusations of saltiness because Im a Jets fan and my team lost. But honestly, as a Jets fan, I have nothing to be salty about. My team did a hell of a job and played a heck of a season. We will be back next year and Vegas golden knights logo florals watercolor flowers. we will have even more passion and desire to win. However, as a fan of hockey and a previous expansion team (Jets 2.0 were the Thrashers an expansion team.) I am absolutely mortified that Vegas has gotten this far so soon.

People saying this wasn’t a fix really need to learn their facts; up to the last expansion draft (Wild and Bluejackets), teams were allowed to protect 1 goaltender, 5 d-men and their top 9 forwards. Thus why previous expansion teams were garbage in their first years. To get good, competitive they had to build from drafting and smart trading. Vegas golden knights logo florals watercolor flowers. Now suddenly, because Vegas is in the league, they want the new team to be competitive, they change the rules to 1 goalie, 3 dmen and 7 forwards. So essentially Vegas got to potentially pick 1 2nd liner or 3rd liner from each team as well as a 2nd pair and or 3rd pair d-man. This forced the hand of a lot of teams, where they had to give up valuable assets (draft picks or roster players) in order to protect other players or to ensure that Vegas picked a player the team felt was expendable. (For example the Jets traded 3 picks including a first, so Vegas would take Thorburn). So basically the NHL allowed McPhee to play NHL18 create a franchise the real game.

So my question is why the sudden rule change? Did the league not want their other expansion franchises to be successful? If the Vegas rules were how it was from the get go, yes I would be the first to say wow…McPhee did an amazing job…but no all McPhee did was what any hockey gm with half a brain could do. Pick the best player from each team that was available. So why did Bettman and the league do this? To ensure the success of the franchise to line their pockets making the Stanley cup a purchasable trophy…which cheapens the image of the cup.
Obviously Buttman and the league are more concerned with money and their own well being. Than keeping the integrity of the game. So Vegas, enjoy your “bought” cup should you win it. It means nothing compared to all the teams who have done it before. I am going to be watching the SCF and hope to all things holy that who ever wins the East absolutely destroys Vegas. Otherwise, for me at least…hockey will be ruined! Before it was the hardest trophy in pro sports to earn now thats obviously not the case. If the Knights had to start of like all the other previous expansion teams, there would be no fan base and the franchise would fail as soon as the initial luster wore off.
