I have an original copy, which I got as a wedding gift from a friend’s father, who sadly passed away three years ago. My friend said when The beatles walking across abbey road christmas he (the dad) heard about me getting married, he immediately said ‘Oh, he’s getting my white album’. Coincidentally, that particular record was the very first Beatles record I have held in my hands about 25 years earlier.

I think it is a privilege to have been alive as a teenager when the Beatles were releasing their albums and being able to be the first at the record shop when these records were delivered on their release date, to purchase the LP and to be able to experience the sheer wonderment of the Beatles music when you got that record home and placed it on the turntable for the first time . I had the pleasure of doing this for every album after Beatles for Sale . The beatles walking across abbey road christmas The white album was a bit different in its delivery . In New Zealand there was an offer to get it earlier than the record stores by preorder and having it delivered by post , which I did. I still own all the LPs and have a working turntable to still play them on.
In 1979 when I was 15 a woman I was working with have me 5 Beatles albums, the White album was one of those. I spent the rest of that summer going home and listening to one after another every day after work. I went through my own little private Beatlemania! Still one of my fondest recollections.
Enjoy your time and be cool with it
I have always envied anyone who was around at the time of all the Beatles releases and the period you mention was the most crucial in terms of innovation where they just kept raising the bar ever higher. I can only imagine how amazing it was when the old stylus hit the grooves for the first time.
You are so right. I had just started to work when it all happened. In the main commercial street of Auckland, where there were record stores galore. I used to find out on which day the new Beatles record would arrive and on the day I would probably leave the office 2 or 3 times in the day to the shop to ask if it had arrived. I think the most awesome experience was when I got Sgt. Peppers home and put that on the turntable for the first. It was mind blowing because it was so different from what was before, although revolver was going on that direction. And then the White Album came with its vast variation of songs, all the genres on 2 discs, and the cover completely the opposite of Sgt. Pepper. Remember although, we natives in far off New Zealand had some info on what was on the albums and reactions because they were released maybe a month earlier in the UK.
