5 years ago I got a call saying I was a match for a man fighting Lymphoma. I was told “he smiled for the first time in a month when we told him we found a match!” The donation was on and off for the next two years because his condition kept changing. In the end, he was never strong enough for the donation and lost his battle. Rules for dating my daughter #1 you can’t. No one understood how I could mourn someone I didn’t even have a first name for. The connection you have with your match is beyond words. I never knew my match but I still think of him and his family. Please please please sign up for this registry if you are able! It takes minutes and you can save a life!

My grandson had Aplastic anemia. After the family was tested there were no matches for him. One day we got that fateful call that there was a 9 out of 10 match for him. After months of prep we finally got to do the BMT. Unfortunately, ours did not have a happy ending. Our little man passed 4 months after his 2nd BMT. Funny shirts. However, if this person had not volunteered, we would have lost him sooner. So Bless this total stranger for helping my 5 yr old grandson. And for others who have donated
So sorry to hear this. I think it also depends where they are being seen. My daddy got leukemia when he was 70 and we took him to Houston, Tx. There he received treatment and beat it! There they gave him the option to get a BMT but he chose not too. There are also a lot of complications from a BMT, wether it works or not and he decided not to take that route. Sadly, we lost him two months ago. He was in remission for one year and it came back with a vengeance, just like they said it would when it would, and he got pneumonia and we lost him
