I had to forgive to make peace and move on. I forgave them for their weakness and I forgave myself for not believing I deserved better. For me, forgiveness was important to heal and self-forgiveness most important. Understand that the process is different for everyone, the key is to do what you need so they no longer have power over you. I wonder myself if I’m able to love again or find love in this life. Now with 60 I realize that blaming the other doesnt solve the problem.

I completely agree that we should never try to force someone to forgive, it’s not always possible and well, trying to force someone into doing anything they don’t want to isn’t really helpful either. In my case, the forgiveness was for me, not them. I didn’t tell them or anyone else.. it’s was the final step I needed to take to heal and close the door. All of us have to find our own path and what worked for me (after 30 years of pain) will not work for everyone. If you have your own journey of healing, I hope you find your own peace
