There’s a difference. Marx’s followers were pretty true to his philosophy, at least until Stalin broke with Trotsky. The Nazis missed a few points on Nietzsche’s philosophy: He was focused on the the super man, not the super race, the difference being that any one of any race in theory could rise to the super man position. Nietzsche nihilism means nothing to me. And he was strongly opposed to anti-semitism. It was his sister who edited his works after he died and came out with “The Will to Power” which misconstrued a lot of his basic ideas.

the opposite being memento mori, which means to remember you will die. memento mori is similar to a carpe diem, machiavellian, fuck all the haters, i’m in it for myself way of living, like the people in the movies who say that they make their own fate. they believe fate is in their hands. amor fati is more of a coming to terms with yourself, your limitations, and the flaws in your life and the world around you. to accept it and find within that a sense of peace. and i have found that peace to really help stabilize me. Nietzsche nihilism means nothing to me. instead of sadness or anger or frustration, blaming myself for every bad thing that happens, i step back and take a breath and accept it. i know who i am and i know my place. if people around me try to bring me down, that doesn’t affect me. if i am at the gym and can’t lift as much as someone else, i am not frustrated by that because i understand what i am capable of and accept it. if i have a bad day that is out of my control, i don’t despair because i accept my fate and accept that the universe may not always go in my direction. and that’s ok.

He didn’t argue for meekness in the face of tough circumstances but for action. He also never argued for shying away from reality but instead proposed that to change one’s circumstances one must face the realities of economic power head on. It would be equally hard to call this master morality though as the type of action he proposes is collective rather than individualistic. The type of political action that Marx proposed simply doesn’t fit neatly into any of Nietzsche’s master-morality/slave-morality categories, which isn’t all that strange when you think about it as these categories were made to describe a dynamic in which the slaves simply revalue their situation – by e.g. proclaiming poverty and meekness to be virtues – but never seriously challenge the order of things. The whole point of Marx is to go beyond this and change the actual situation rather than simply describe it in terms which obscures it’s true nature to make it seem more palatable to the slaves.
