Nature already does it. It could definitely help infertile couples and improve quality control for livestock and there’s not anything particularly special about sexual reproduction as a method. Just one of the strategies employed by DNA to make more DNA. I work out just kidding I chase twins. So possibly cloning out sicknesses like cancer and diabetes and even the chemical imbalance that causes things like depression won’t do any amount of good for the world right? Psst, that was sarcasm btw. In case it wasn’t obvious.
Click to buy this funny shirt now! It changes all the time. Mutations happen at the moment. You’re developing some right now by breathing and the creation of reactive oxidative species. However, the body can repair them and sometimes it doesn’t. And as I said before some will be beneficial, some detrimental and some benign. We aren’t killing everything and even if we did we wouldn’t be the first. Organisms on earth have initiated mass extinctions long before we came along. We wouldn’t be here if they didn’t. But that’s not what this is about and “weaker” is a) not true and b) relative
Have a nice time and click it!
You have too poetic an idea of “natural” and “synthetic”. All that’s needed to make a cow is for the sperm and egg to get together, how is irrelevant. Their diet and treatment ARE though and I agree with you there, we will get a different flavor, which by the way most people seem to like, more fat and all. Again you’re correct, it’s cows eating other cows in their feed but that’s not “synthetic” so you used the wrong term. I also agree that grass-fed beef is probably better for you but that’s assuming meat, in general, is good for us and, especially in the quantities we consume it’s not.
I think he’s confusing a couple of things simultaneously. Cows are artificially inseminated in many cases. That’s not the same as IVF. Synthetic meat is in vitro from stem cells. The concept is the same as in regenerative medicine where we would take (your) stem cells and grow a new organ for you. There’s some justification to rearing and feeding them differently as this changes how fast they grow and fat-muscle ratio. But that’s not the same as “unnatural” or specifically in this case “synthetic”. He’s conflating things he has aesthetic objections to and putting them in a model (an erroneous one) of the state of the world and perceived consequences. In his defense though how we raise cows for mass commercial use is not beneficial for their health, it kills them prematurely, and using hormones to the extent we do is not beneficial for us nor is the high-fat content we find so delicious.
