It’s amazing what African-Americans can do, when given an opportunity. BTW…..why wasn’t he drafted, since it should have been obvious that he was exceptionally talented. I literally replaced Em with the Giants a year after his untimely death in training camp. In my 40 plus years in professional football, I don’t believe I met a finer human being. A total class act. As both a player and coach, Em took the train from Philadelphia to NY city literally every day with Giants DE Jim Katcavage, coach Ken Kavanaugh and at that time a relatively unknown television announcer I am black history month african american black pride shirt for a show called “Who Do You Trust” named Ed McMahon.
Ken swore that from the moment the train left left the station in Philadelphia till the the time they arrived in the city, he had Ed McMahon on the floor laughing!!! The great Johnny Carson had nothing on ole Em!!! An interesting fact about Em was that for his entire adult life, He never had a drivers license and yet he would literally be the first scout to arrive at the next school call EVERY day (to this day, I nor anyone else have any idea how he did it)!!! He was a Hall of Fame player both on and off the field. Rest In Peace “Emlen the Gremlin” you were one of a kind.
Get it and proud of it
I thought I was a Giants fan. I never heard of him until now. If anything the only New York team getting mentioned in the past is the New Jersey Jets. That’s right I said it! And that’s why they was getting nearly as paid..all in the sake of “doing their job”..when in reality entertainment is their job so like said no style ..now guys are building their own brand n getting while entertaining at the same time…it’s mostly ol mfers crying about celebration
Sports are meant to be fun and enjoyed. Displays of joy are anchored in respect for the game and what it took to make it happen. Because you did it before doesn’t mean you can do it again, take nothing for granted. Just ask Tom Brady. We can get back to the buttoned-up – no emotion – mundane existence Monday morning, but during sporting events we celebrate! proposed to my mom when I was in the seventh grade and canceled his speaking to my class. My mom turned him down. A great man. Mom said he was a little childish for her. She didn’t understand how jocks acted. Still some great memories. Miss you Mom. RIP.
