The thing Henry really wanted was a legitimate male heir. When his first mistress bore him a son, he began to suspect that there was something sinful about his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. And was anxious to find a solution. Marrying her sister Anne was a convenient solution. The fact that Henry was attracted to Anne Boleyn must have helped, but wasn’t really the main reason for the split from Rome. Well, he started the divorce thing with his first wife Catalina de Aragón (or Catherine the Catholic), who actually was not murdered but died naturally. I know is not a serious documentary, but just wanted to write it! So gender is determined by the male. So when you say that Anne promised a son but could not deliver. And when you say Anne Failed to give him a son. Is a bit condescending, especially when in reality Henry failed to provide a Y chromosome necessary for a Male heir.
As I see it this was Henry failure and not Anne. But even with all we know about biology and science let’s still blame the female in 2018. I do also know that back then nobody understood X and Y chromosomes so I get that at that time it was seen as the fault of the Mother. Lets not perpetuate a women’s failure for not having a male or for that fact for having a miscarriage. At the time of the Tudors they would have had no idea how genetics and chromosomes work (or even what they were) being that such things were discovered hundreds of years later. It was a time period when men were favoured over women as they carried on the family lineage
