I think this message went over your head. Hair stylist love sunflower Yeah depression is not a easy thing to get over that easily but you have to start somewhere. Forgetting some of your own problems might help. Some people are clinically depressed, that another story.

There’s a world of difference between depression and sadness. As for “forgetting some of your own problems”, I think James, you misunderstand what depression is. You can do nice things for other people, give them happiness, and while it might be some solace and you can feel good about it, it doesn’t actually stop you being depressed. I get the sentiment behind the story; I just think it’s very badly presented. Hair stylist love sunflower It is including a lot of unnecessary “us against them” sort of imagery; I just find it a bit nauseating. I’m of the view that no one should be belittled or dismissed when it comes to their mental health. Rich or poor or fortunate or not.
I have a problem with this. It does not take into account a very real fact that depression is a physical disease. Just like diabetes or Parkinson, it takes medicine as well as a change in activity and thought. People with depression may not get or be able to get better without fixing the reason for depression which has to do with synapses in the brain, a real physical illness. You would not tell a diabetic to do something good for another and they will get better. That being said, this is a heart warming story.

This perpetuates the “lift yourself up by your bootstraps “ school of thought. Depression is a medical illness, just like cancer. You can’t wish it away. It is the result of chemical imbalances in the brain. It is treatable with medication and cognitive behavioral therapy. There is hope for those suffering from depression, but “being positive” isn’t the answer. I would never tell someone not to pray for divine intervention. But God placed talented physicians on this earth to help us in our journey. My point is that you can beat depression but you need help to do it. If you haven’t been there, don’t lead people astray by saying cancer can be cured in 3 minutes.
