I love seeing stories like this and there needs to be a lot more of them. 90% of babies diagnosed with down syndrome during pregnancy are aborted. Up to 50% of those babies are misdiagnosed. When I worked for Disability Services, 2 of my clients were married. They both worked and were able to buy a house. Down syndrome mom shirt They were wonderful!! They surpassed what people though they could do!! Just delightful people…like everyone around them. Disabilities come in many varieties! Millions of people have disabilities in many different forms, and they deal with them effectively! Many disabled people are actually gifted in some way! Never sell these wonderful people short!
Like a cool mama with it
Another outstanding story from the CBS team. This couple has everything that matters in life. Even though this is not news that effects the world, the nation, or even regions of the nation, It is always nice to see a positive story at the end of the evening news broadcast. Especially a story about love. They are capable of love – they also need much support – just saying I don’t know why people call them disabled? They will need much support and I am sure he did need support in his restaurant as well – why can’t we just accept people as they are – they are as disabled as someone who cannot walk, are blind, can’t hear, ect that doesn’t mean they are not worth while but it doesn’t mean they are the same eitehr.
They are just a couple kids in love making a life for themselves. They do not want or need to be treated any differently than any one else. The handicap is in the people who view them as anything less than perfect. My guess would be that he’s more independent than her and he would have an easier time transitioning. Some people with Down syndrome need a lot of additional support from family and community resources, while some can lead very independent lives with minimal help. Obviously, if he’s owning a business he’s the more independent of the two, but that’s just my guess.
