I’m gonna stop you right there to say one thing even though I’m white I hate the term African America you are American unless you recently immigrated from Africa then you are African American. I just copied and paste but I am black. My ancestors are from Africa yes. I am from Ohio still an American nonetheless. But why can’t I be identified as an African American? Dashiki educated black queen black history shirt there are Asians that were born here and yet they are identified as Asian Americans. I know Mexican Americans that never been to Mexico and don’t even speak Spanish but yet labeled as such so what’s the issue with African Americans?
never once have I heard other races label themselves as such I’m of German decent and I’ve never heard anyone say German American it’s all false terminology and is inappropriate to use. I’m not sure where you live but I know plenty that do maybe not German. But even my Italian friends rather be labeled as Italian and they are from Cleveland lol. It’s your preference and I respect your opinion. Some would like to represent what they are and where their ancestors come from and their heritage. No issue with being proud of WHO YOU ARE. if it makes others uncomfortable that’s their issue. It’s about pride in ones self.
Take your time and get your tee
I just see us all as Americans that’s what we are we have heritage and I’m not saying it’s wrong to be proud of it but it’s just silly to try and stand out from other by saying you are this American or that American. Yes you have a point yes we’re all Americans but America is a melting pot of all sorts of cultures and ethnicities. Just saying we are Americans just washes out everything else about what MAKES us Americans. It is the land of (somewhat free) so why can’t it be that way. The word American is still present.
ts only seems silly when your heritage has not been diminished and made to seem inferior to others for so long. So when you get a chance to celebrate it with impunity, you’d do it as much as you possibly can? And to the “African American” label discussion, we been called Negroes, Coloured, Blacks, Afro-Americans, etc… This is just the latest one the establishment settled on. Its kinda weird cause Africa is a continent, with dozens of countries inside of it, but most of us dont know our african country of origin which is why the term is so broad.
