I saw once a video by the same monk on how we must understand our responsibility and how he fare wells his folks to follow his dreams. I thought he would be short changed in that transaction. Today i see him smile again and he has made me smile. Good job Smile is only most pleasing in cultures where smiling is pleasing, Clark Griswold when santa squeezes his fat white ass down in many cultures smiling carried somewhat a negative connotation. Smiling is Western culture of business. Smiling can be untrustworthy in many cultures, and deceiving.
I actually have made it kinda my “thing.” I would say that a solid 75% of the adults I smile at will return my smile when I pass them smiling. A good 95% of children will return a smile when I smile at them. This is not necessarily true around the world. I was once told that as a group, Americans smile more than any other people.
I found the most reluctant smilers, so far in my traveling, are Hungarians. When I got into a conversation with a Hungarian about this, he explained that the years of oppression and “always being on the losing side” of all the wars fought in and around them have created suspicious people. I still smiled at every one I met or passed.
