I do think that some fans went into the episode expecting fireworks and explosions and were disappointed when they got a small fire starting to burn and engulf. Christmas supernatural deck the halls with salt and iron impala Supernatural is never a show that blew off its load in the premiere, it was never a show to have an explosive premiere.
Cute Christmas supernatural deck the halls with salt and iron impala shirts!
Season 13 premiere and that of Season 14 were both mature, slow and dark. They both dealt with their different situations in a psychological manner. This isnt truly new to the show, the entirety of season 1 was slow. Season 3 premiere was slow, Season 8 premiere had a rather slow pace too. Christmas supernatural deck the halls with salt and iron impala For some reason fans seemed to think that SPN was gonna grab their puppet strings and make a puppet show with fireworks, Aka “Let The Good Times Roll”. What we got in this premiere was, scattered characters, strangers in a land that is reminiscent of what they knew. We saw Michael find his footing and Sam struggle to become a leader. We saw Jack feeling useless and once again questioning, why am I here? We saw Nick returning from years of being tormented by the devil and we see Bobby and Mary trying to gel everything together when they themselves struggle for closure.
The Directing picked up once again from Season 13’s mastery (excluding the fight scene in the finale). It felt like a horror movie with its specific lighting and unique choices of camera angles. From focusing on Kip’s brown leather shoes, to Sam opening the door into Nicks room, to Michael almost toying with his victims. I read comments were people did not like Jensen’s acting, for the first time in the shows history people are complaining about this Oscar-worthy actors performance. Honestly the only reason I can see for this, is that people are to used to seeing Jensen as Dean and him acting as anything else might be jarring. This happens to all the best actors, struggling to lose one identity and manifest into a new one.
Get it and prepare for this Christmas!
But in truth most times it is NOT their fault but ours as viewers for being unable to let go of what we are used too. Jensen Ackles in Season 14 episode 1 did not play even a cell of Dean Winchester, he played a cold shell harvesting pure power. His performance was shocking, chilling and absolutely captivating. I saw Jensen acting on a SPN set and I could not recognize him. Michael has always been a philosophical, biblical character and i loved the way they wrote him, “What do you truly Want”. What a twisted question, What does anyone Want and what does it mean to want something? Is Want just another word for desire or does it a heavier meaning with more consequence?
Jared Padalecki aka Sam Winchester aka a proper leader. I hope that when Dean returns, Sam remains in such a role because he of all characters deserves it. It was hinted in Season 12 and now we are finally seeing Sam the leader of Hunters. I remember in Season 11 when he said No to Lucifer in the cage and Season 12 when he said no to Dr. Hess and now in Season 14 when he said no to Kip. The character growth is outstanding and also sad. A character that has grown stronger also became sadder. Mary holding the hope that once resided in Sam and Sam looking more and more like who his older brother was. The world will end bloody and its only a matter of time. Have they broken Sams character? I dont think so, I think given the chance even Mary can have her hope shattered.
