Putting people with high support needs in a different category, separate from all the other autistic people who share their same essential issues in varying degrees spreads the damaging idea that people who don’t use speech are lesser. Many autistic people who grew up without a way of expressing themselves are now writing, and sharing their experiences online. They overwhelmingly like who they are, and they *all* have always had just as many thoughts as anyone else. Baby elephant autism awareness shirt My daughter was diagnosed with autism when she was 4. She is now 13. She loved the Ted talk given by this wonderful young woman. I love that my daughter can draw strength and courage to move forward in life boldly knowing she isn’t alone in the journey.

Myth, all kids with autism can’t look at u in the eye. That’s a big lie!! Some of them do, and some even have good social skills. Autism is a spectrum and not everyone has to be the same. My grandson was going to the Autism center where we use to live to be evaluated. We had to move we carry him to the doctor here to try and get something else done. The doctor says ” Can you understand 3/4 of what he says” I said yes. He said well he’s not autistic. He goes on to say there are no test or evaluations that can be done for him to see if he had it. Well long story a little short. We don’t go to him anymore and are looking for help some where.
